General Labor - Dry End

  • Job Purpose: 

 

    1. To maintain a clean and orderly workplace throughout the entire dry end operation and to replace sick or vacationing employees as needed.
  • Supervision:Frequently receives Instructions.Never given Authority over Others.

  • Job Reviews: 

 

    1. Receives job performance reviews every 30 days for first 90 days if new employee; every 6 month thereafter.
  • Equipment Operated and Tools Used: 

 

    1. Sweeper and common hand tools.
  • Job Duties:
  • General housekeeping and cleanup of sawdust, dirt, pieces of lumber, and any other foreign material required to make area clean and safe to work in, especially areas under planer, hog, and accumulator chains.
  • Assist in keeping rough lumber cut up.
  • Keeps strapping cut up.
  • Cross train and fill in for Stick Layer and Lumber Puller for vacation and sickness relief. (See appropriate job descriptions for details of duties and physical requirements.)
  • Work smoothly with fellow employees, supervisors and managers.
  • Follow any other job-related instructions and perform any other job-related duties requested by supervisor.  

 

  • Working Conditions/Requirements:Subject to noise levels requiring constant hearing protection.

    2. Need to be available for a minimum of 40 hours as defined by assigned shift and must be available to work overtime. Regular attendance is an essential job requirement. Subject at all times to seasonal temperatures with some exposure to weather conditions when working outside.
  • Physical Requirements: 

 

    1. At varying intervals and for varying durations, this job will require bending; crawling, stooping, climbing ladders, stairs and equipment up to 20 feet in height; lifting up to 60 pounds; pulling and pushing up to 100 pounds; standing and walking for periods that can last in excess of 8 hours. Should not be adverse to heights due to climbing requirements. Due to production and safety requirements involving machinery, vehicles and evacuation plans in this work area, this job requires that the employee have acceptable vision and hearing capabilities.
  • Necessary Knowledge and/or Training: 

 

    1. Must be able to read, write, and speak and comprehend basic English in order to be able to cross train and fill in at a variety of job locations.
  • Necessary Prior Experience: 

 

    1. Prior experience working in a sawmill, with similar equipment or in similar jobs will be a benefit when competing for this position.
  • Other: 

 

  1.  
  2. Must be capable of wearing all OSHA mandated safety equipment required for this job. Must follow all applicable Company safety regulations.
