Quality Assurance Tech

Memphis Cellulose is actively searching for a Quality Assurance Laboratory Technician. This position creates value by supporting our cotton linter pulp mill in the production of high purity cotton linter pulp.
Responsibilities:
- Perform job duties in a safe and effective manner
- Operate and run lab equipment
- Perform testing duties swiftly, effectively communicating issues and re-testing as needed
- Retrieve and prepare samples for testing, using manual cutter, picker, or other equipment
- Maintain clean, tidy and orderly lab environment
- Perform calculations, enter data, analyze and assign quality and communicate results and issues
- Work with minimal direction to complete testing accurately and quickly so that modifications can be made while mill is running
- Perform routine calibration checks on all critical lab equipment per the posted ISO specifications
- Verify test accuracy and report inconsistencies to supervision
- Adhere to all mill health, safety and environmental guidelines, policies and procedures
- Authority to question suspect data
- Participate in and lead cross functional groups to complete specific projects for process improvements
- Perform internal quality audits and internal ISO audits
- Draft quality assurance standards
- Provide quality data, such as at daily coordination meetings, alerts and Quality Leadership Team meetings to identify and communicate improvement areas to the mill
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in science-related or pursing a degree in a science related field with a graduation date no later than May 2019
- Familiarity of quality lab practices/techniques
- Leadership skills and the ability to motivate people to create value and eliminate waste
- Experience safely operating lab equipment
- Experience troubleshooting quality issues and lab equipment issues
- Solid understanding and use of statistical and quality tools (e.g. DOE, data analysis, etc)
- Ability to use math skills to solve complex problems
- Ability to execute projects independently
- Ability to learn and use pertinent chemistry principles
- Demonstrate structured decision-making and problem-solving abilities
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency with MS Office products
- Willingness to work in industrial/manufacturing plant setting
- Willing and able to work a rotating, twelve (12) hour shift alone, including daytime, evening, weekend, holiday and overtime hours. May require continuous standing/working/walking during these shifts
- Willing and able to pull and lift up to 50 lbs
- Willing and able to wear all required Personal Protection equipment (PPE), to include but not limited to; safety glasses, safety shoes, goggles, aprons, gloves, and full face respirator
- Willing and able to be professional in conduct and dress when working with customers, when representing the company and with company personnel
- Maintain strict adherence to safety rules, training and compliance regulations
- Willing to work in a tobacco free environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting manufacturing operations
- Experience in or knowledge of cellulose chemistry
- Root Cause Analysis experience
- ISO Knowledge/background experience
- Experience in internal ISO or third party audits
- Certification in Six Sigma or other improvement methodology
- 3-5 years of lab experience
- Previous work experience in a shift environment
- Ability to perform maintenance and calibrations on equipment in the QA lab.
