Production Operator - Fiber Optic Manufacturing
Job Description
- Assemble fiber optic components and subassemblies using microscopes, hand tools, fixtures, adhesives, epoxies, and precision equipment.
- Prepare, strip, clean, cleave, polish, route, align, bond, and package optical fiber according to the assigned process.
- Operate approved production, inspection, and test equipment after completing required training and certification.
- Read and follow drawings, routers, bills of material, work instructions, visual standards, and quality requirements.
- Perform in-process inspections and basic optical, visual, dimensional, or functional tests; accurately record results and maintain product traceability.
- Verify materials, tooling, equipment settings, and job documentation before beginning work.
- Identify and contain nonconforming or suspect material, stop work when requirements are not met, and promptly notify the appropriate lead, supervisor, or Quality representative.
- Meet established production rates while protecting product quality, controlling scrap, and supporting customer delivery commitments.
- Maintain an organized workstation and follow housekeeping, contamination-control, ESD, cleanroom, PPE, chemical-handling, and other safety requirements.
- Participate in daily production meetings, cross-training, problem solving, root-cause activities, and process-improvement efforts.
- Support rework, prototype, or other production areas as trained and assigned.
- Communicate job status, material shortages, equipment concerns, defects, and improvement ideas clearly during the shift and at handoff.

- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent work experience.
- Ability to perform detailed, repetitive work while maintaining accuracy and focus.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, use basic math, and complete production records accurately.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for handling small and fragile components.
- Ability to work independently after training and collaborate effectively with Production, Quality, Engineering, and support teams.
- Dependable attendance and willingness to work the assigned schedule, including overtime when required.
- Ability to qualify for and maintain required task certifications.
- This position may require access to export-controlled defense articles, technical data, software, equipment, or manufacturing areas regulated under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and other applicable U.S. export-control laws.
- The successful candidate must be eligible to access required export-controlled items and information under applicable law, company authorization, and any required government license or approval.
- Complete required export-control and ITAR training and follow all access, handling, storage, marking, transmission, visitor-control, and recordkeeping procedures.
- Do not disclose, discuss, copy, photograph, transmit, remove, or provide access to controlled products, drawings, specifications, process information, software, equipment, or technical data unless specifically authorized.
- Immediately report any suspected unauthorized access, disclosure, loss, shipment, transfer, or other potential export-control concern.
- Employment decisions will be made in accordance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; any access limitations will be based on the requirements of the position and applicable export-control authorizations.
- Previous manufacturing, precision assembly, electronics, medical-device, photonics, or fiber optic experience.
- Experience using microscopes, optical test equipment, inspection tools, epoxies, or controlled manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 13485, cleanroom practices, ESD controls, or ERP/MES production systems.
- Work may be performed in standard manufacturing, controlled, or cleanroom environments.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
- Ability to visually inspect small components, including work performed under magnification.
- Ability to wear required PPE and follow gowning and contamination-control procedures.
- Ability to lift and move materials or equipment up to 25 pounds, with assistance when appropriate.
